Xyloquirk Books
fiction, poetry, and art of the offbeat and surreal

THE OLD ROAD contains over eighty short poems. Nature is often the theme, but so are parking lots, cosmonaut squirrels, and other manifestations of the imagination that sizzle with life and hum with meaning.
Inside this book...
reconstruction
brisk
dogs
fleet
post
sea
edge
table
this is a fable
fumbling for the doorknob

breath of air

short
poems.
in the corner of the closet
a forest of vermilion and gold
a hermit thrush
rummaging the leaves

airplane

the parked airplane nodded to the exercise bicycle
sweat is permitted
lose weight before you fly
make the most of your wait time (rhymes with waist line)
fly, change over, arrive, stay over
repeat over and over
the pilot will sip a latte
and the stewardess pack a lot in a little bag on wheels
and be a little late

threads

car radio turns up to the max for the dog floating in water in the back as the crumbling foundations of ancient greek pantheons settle on fishmongers’ and ironmongers’ backs and children count the crows

sky valley
alone then with the world
upon the very peak
looking down upon my troubles
i think i see them blink
